REMC Dedicates New HQThe Bartholomew County REMC held a building dedication Thursday afternoon for their new headquarters on Deaver Road. CEO Jim Turner said the historic flood of June, 2008 decimated their former home on Second Street. When deciding how to proceed, Turner said the REMC Board simply looked at the data and acted accordingly. This new facility is more centralized and is in an area that is seeing continued growth for the REMC. He added that this new building is better equipped to handle the needs of it's members. The building utilizes a lot of natural light, as each office has a direct view of the outdoors. Turner said the new headquarters is a hit with employees, who moved in about two weeks prior to the building's dedication. Turner says that a great part of the new structure is it's environmental friendliness. He said the architects, builders and everyone else associated with the construction worked to make the building LEED Certified. LEED Certification is a voluntary benchmark set by the U.S. Green Building Council. LEED means "Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design". This building will be the first commercial structure in Bartholomew County to achieve such merit. Guidelines require that a new building be in use for some time before it can officially be LEED certified. The building's environmental friendliness is set to increase this summer when new solar panels and a wind turbine are installed on-site this summer. Turner expects certification will be granted within approximately ten months. ImagesLast Updated: Friday, March 05, 2010 5:37:07 AM |
