CPD Officer Fired Over February Incident

After an internal investigation, Columbus Police Chief Jim Worton is recommending the termination of Officer Matthew Stephenson. Worton has requested a special session of the Columbus Board of Public Works and Safety as a result of an internal investigation involving alleged misconduct by Stephenson.          
 
The Internal investigation completed by CPD revealed several Policy and Procedure violations by Officer Stephenson.  The violations identified were:  1. Conduct Adverse to the Department, 2. Unbecoming Conduct, 3. Deceptive Reports, 4. False Reporting, 5. Truthfulness, and 6. Evidence. 

As a result of the internal investigation findings the Columbus Police Department’s Administrative Board met and unanimously moved that Officer Stephenson be terminated as soon as possible.  Chief Worton will meet with the Board of Public Works on Wednesday to recommend that Officer Stephenson be terminated from the Columbus Police Department.
