After what he calls the "least eventful" legislative session he has seen, Governor Mitch Daniels is turning his attention to "maintaining the fiscal solvency of the state." The state anticipates full consumption of the budget reserves built up between 2005 and 2008. And still, the governor says it‘s going to be difficult to keep the state in the black if revenue collection continues to fall short of projections.

"We will continue working on savings of all kinds, on reforms that save taxpayer dollars," says the governor.

Business leaders are relieved that the general assembly delayed higher unemployment insurance premiums for one year. They were hoping for a two-year delay, but Daniels says the issue probably would have been revisited next year anyway.

The business people are hoping the governor will veto the bill allowing workers to bring guns to workplace parking lots. At this point, Daniels says there are no bills that he plans to veto.
